Hong Fook Mental Health Association is a community-based organization serving the Greater Toronto Area. Position: Community Support Worker (Vietnamese) - Full-Time 12-Month Termed
Major Responsibilities
- Support Vietnamese speaking clients’ recovery by assisting the provision of intensive case management services including assisting with treatment, recovery and support services; and working with families to promote mutual support, capacity building and empowerment.
- Assist in facilitating linkages between clients and community resources and collaborating with appropriate service providers or community organizations.
- Identify issues and liaise communication with Mental Health Worker for advice, consultation, support and information to consumers, their families, service providers and the community on mental health and related matters.
- Assist Mental Health Workers in addressing barriers that impact on the Asian communities’ ability to access mental health services.
- Participate in assisting providing education to community service providers and other stakeholders regarding culturally responsive service.
- Maintain effective and timely documentation of client records.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time 37.5 hours per week
- Working locations: HF offices, community or virtually as needed
- Flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
Education and Experience
- Social Service Worker diploma; Community Service Worker diploma
or equivalent.
- Current registration with OCSWSSW or is eligible for the OCSWSSW membership.
- At least 6 months of experience working with vulnerable populations.
Skills, Knowledge and Other Requirements
- Openness to continuous learning on mental health and illness, recovery model, the Strengths Model
- Recognition of the individual-level and system-level practice challenges and ability to maintain hopeful through these challenges.
- Sound team collaboration, group work and community work skills.
- An understanding of the psychosocial rehabilitation model.
- Knowledge of mental illness, medications and ability to assist clients with symptom management.
- Knowledge of community resources and systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong sense of professionalism and excels at fostering interpersonal team relationships to work collaboratively with team members by promoting a productive work atmosphere.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in English and Vietnamese.
- Competence in relevant computer applications particularly Microsoft Office.
- A valid Canadian driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse setting.
- A satisfactory result of Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check and Covid-19 Vaccination Record are required.

Position: Clinician (Casual, On-Call Basis)

Position: Clinician (Casual, On-Call Basis)
The Clinician, under the direction of the Lead, Youth and Family Services, will primarily be responsible for providing counseling to the East Asian youths and their families in the Counselling Clinic. Hong Fook is a compassionate team of professionals, we work from a client- centered, strength-based approach to engage all youth, and families in a manner which is culturally sensitive, non-judgmental and respectful. This position will be responsible to develop the Walk-In Counselling Clinic, and provide services that are evidenced based.
Major Responsibilities:
- Report to the Lead, Youth and Family Services
- Dedicate at least one morning or afternoon per week for the Coordinator to schedule the first appointment after intake;
- Participate in Transition Meeting, if appropriate;
- Any preparation required prior to the appointment, including reading any relevant case notes;
- Apply evidence-based assessment and treatment (such as strengths-based Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to support the youth, young adults and their families with mental health challenges;
- Schedule any follow-up appointments as required;
- Complete counselling session notes and other documentation related to the Youth Counselling Clinic;
- Participate in monthly clinical supervision;
- Follow and comply with the legislation and College standards;
- Maintain good working relationship with all stakeholders while carrying out the contract.

Education and Experience
I. Education
- Master Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or equivalent
II. Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ direct service delivery experience, preferably in Children and Youth’s mental health
- Membership in the appropriate professional regulatory body, such as the College of Psychologists of Ontario, the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service
III. Knowledge
- Demonstrated skills working within a Brief Services therapy model
- Familiarity with a range of evidence-based treatment modalities
- Well-developed knowledge of the principles of mental health assessment and counselling and demonstrated ability to direct the processes that lead to change and personal development
- Knowledge of case management, group and community work
- Strong communication, and organization skills
- Thorough knowledge of community resources and the consultative skills to maximize their use, Mental Health Act and other relevant legislations
- Must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening Police background
IV. Skills
- Competency in verbal and written communication as well as computer literacy
- Skilled in crisis intervention theories and methods to safely and effectively work with youth in
- Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and professionalism when working with families and other professionals
- Demonstrated ability to work in diversified setting
- English proficiency and a second language/dialect required (e.g., Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese or Tagalog)
Work Hours
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, evenings and weekend as needed
- Access to a vehicle and valid driver’s license is required
- Compensation is commensurate with experience
