January - April, 2017
Hong Fook Mental Health Association and Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic interviewed 15 clients about their mental health journeys. The stories are available in English, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Hong Fook worked together with three ethnic newspapers, SingTao, Canada KCR News, and Thoi Bao, to publish one story each week from January to April 2017. Stories included cancer survivors, single mothers, struggling youth, refugee and immigrant tales, and many other deeply touching and transformative stories. The stories are also available on our website.
These stories recount the harrowing journey of 15 brave individuals that chose to share their personal difficulties and triumphs to show the community that we need to have an open discussion about mental health illnesses. There are resources available to a wide range of communities and people do not have to feel ashamed or alone in their battle against mental health illnesses.

Hong Fook is celebrating its 35th anniversary, welcoming thousands in joining us to “Take the Mental Health Journey Together”. One of the projects we have completed is the Anniversary Book “Our Stories”, which is an extensive resource book for our clients, family members, volunteers, service partners and health care providers. The book contains 15 client stories, in both English and the languages Hong Fook serves in, the summary of the two Needs Assessment Studies Hong Fook conducted in the past few years, interviews of the psychiatrists working closely with Hong Fook, and messages from our Association President, Foundation Chair, and Executive Director. We hope this vast ranging content will guide you and others to take the mental health journey with us, moving from recovery to wellness.
