Abstract

The Advisory Council for EDI in Clinical Care, a cross-divisional committee of the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, was established to promote, advise and advocate for greater integration, collaboration and academic scholarship in research, education, clinical innovation and creative professional activity as they apply to populations with mental illness experiencing social disadvantage. To be responsible to the diverse populations we serve, clinical work needs to take into account the social determinants of health and systemic barriers, and also address learner and faculty safety in light of power imbalances working within institutions, medical systems and communities. Results of a recent survey of faculty will be shared and we will have ample time for discussion and networking with workshop attendees to brainstorm next steps and identify further mental health initiatives with the goals of equitable clinical care, accessible for all.

The HF Connecting Health NP-led clinic will be presented as a model of an innovative primary health care delivery model and collaborative psychiatric care. The clinic provides culturally competent and socially inclusive primary health care services with a focus on mental health through collaborative services, education, advocacy and research (https://hongfook.ca/clinic/).

  3. Describe community health principles behind the creation of the HF Connecting Health NP Led Clinic at Hong Fook.

4.Discuss opportunities, challenges and barriers in developing and implementing clinical programs with an EDI focus.
