Abstract

This session will be sharing experiences of opening and operating housing for transgender and non-binary adults experiencing challenges with mental health and/or addictions. This will include discussion of observed need, considerations in operating housing, safety, and lessons learned.

There will be particular focus on QTBIPOC populations as well as input from the Pacewood Shelter Project. Opportunities for change and allyship, as well as combatting Transphobia, eliminating assimilation, will also be discussed.

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. identify primary challenges facing unhoused transgender/gender expansive folks
  2. understand LOFT supportive housing model
  3. learn about recommendations for future of trans support and care by subject matter experts
