WORKSHOP FUNDAMENTALS OF AN EQUITABLE BLACK MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY

Abstract

This session reviews pre-pandemic knowledge of Black mental health and addiction problems and prevalence. It describes the COVID-19 impact on Black mental health and the efforts made to address emerging needs. Recent researches are reviewed and implications for post-pandemic consequences are elaborated. Alternative responses are elaborated and a best-case scenario described.

  1. Recognize and appreciate pre-pandemic vulnerabilities of the Black population
  2. Describe what the pandemic has amplified and revealed about racialized mental health disparities
  3. Assess the scope and scale of current inequities
  4. Identify critical elements of post-pandemic recovery
